The "Outrigger" is a side-mounted truck rack that is designed to carry a GPS Rod or a Standard Prism Rod. Here are many advantages to using the outrigger system.
TIME SAVING: The outrigger saves time by allowing the surveyor to simply stow the rod in the rack and safely travel down the street to the next point. There is no longer a need to break down the G.P.S. rod. Therefore, satellite lock is maintained.
LESS WEAR & TEAR: When you break the rod down, it is usually laid down in the back of the truck (carefully). But no matter how careful a person is the rod and the receiver will always get bounced around and possibly damaged. With the rod in the outrigger, the rod and receiver are taking the bumps in the road with the trucks own shock absorbers. Our rubber top end holder adds to the safety and shock absorption as well.
CONVENIENCE: The outrigger provides this in all areas. With the rod in the rack, and the faceplate/backpack in the cab, the passenger can navigate to the next point. Then, simply get out of the truck, put on the backpack and just go! (There is no waiting to re-assemble the rod, attach the rod bubble and faceplate, and, most importantly, no wait to re-acquire satellite lock)
The same principles apply with conventional survey. If used with a 360 prism and a robotic system, with the rod in the Outrigger, you can drive down the street or job site with the instrument following, check your back site, then put the rod back in the outrigger and drive to your staking destination. The instrument will be on your prism and ready to go.
The Outrigger has another use as well, it can hold a Laser Level while on a job site for site prep.
WARNING: THIS PRODUCT IS TO BE USED WITH CAUTION, NOT TO BE USED WITH ROD IN RACK AT SPEEDS ABOVE 35 MPH, BE AWARE THAT THE ROD WILL PROTRUDE ABOVE THE CAB OF THE TRUCK AND SLIGHTLY TO THE SIDE, BE AWARE OF LOW HANGING TREES AND BRUSH AND ALWAYS LATCH BEFORE DRIVING.
