WHAT IS A BLUEPRINT?

A blueprint is a reproduction of a technical drawing by using a contact printing process on light-sensitive paper. The original process was invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842, which produced white lines on a blue background. The light-sensitive receiving paper would turn blue while leaving the corresponding drawing as white lines. The diazotype process was invented in the early 1940’s, where cyanotype blueprints were supplanted by diazo prints (also known as “white prints”) that have blue lines on a white or light-colored background. The copiers had fewer complicated parts, and their maintenance was inexpensive. Many of them could also be used for 20 years or more with a high degree of reliability and minimal downtime.

THE BLUEPRINT STORAGE MOBILE HANGING FILE SYSTEM

The hanging clamps come fully assembled in a cardboard box. You can open them by turning the wing knobs. And from there, you can insert up to 100 prints. Tighten the clamp onto your documents, insert the clamp at a downward angle, and pull back to lock it in place. This mobile filing system will allow you to store large documents in a clothesline fashion, which will make them available whenever you need them. Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of paper is used for drafting?

Drafting paper has certain features that make it useful for architects, engineers, and anyone else who makes technical drawings. You can find it in a variety of sizes and styles. But because of the rise of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems that allow people to make technical drawings on a computer instead of drawing them by hand, the use of drafting paper has been in decline.

How do I use drafting paper?

Final drawings must be done on archival-quality paper, so the image will endure and stay crisp for many years. It also needs to contrast well with the pen and pencil you use, which will make it easier to copy the drawing if needed. You’ll also need a variety of drafting tools that will allow you to make precise drawings that communicate clearly.

What is vellum drafting paper?

Vellum drafting paper is made out of cellulose fibers, which come from plants and trees. But it used to be made by stretching calf skin over a wooden frame, so it can be processed for writing. While animal-based vellum is still being manufactured, it’s a very time-consuming and expensive process. That’s why modern vellum is often made by machine with cellulose fibers.

What are the different sizes of drafting paper?

Drafting paper can come in many different sizes, but there are some standard formats that are used for both architectural and engineering documents. The formats for architectural drawings include:
  • ARCH A — 9 x 12 inches (228.6 x 304 millimeters)
  • ARCH B — 12 x 18 inches (304.8 x 609.6 millimeters)
  • ARCH C — 18 x 24 inches (457.2 x 609.6 millimeters)
  • ARCH D — 24 x 36 inches (609.6 x 914.4 millimeters)
  • ARCH E — 36 x 48 inches (914.4 x 1219.2 millimeters)
Engineering documents use the following formats:
  • ANSI A — 8.5 x 11 inches (215.9 x 279.4 millimeters)
  • ANSI B — 11 x 17 inches (279.4 x 431.8 millimeters)
  • ANSI C — 17 x 22 inches (431.8 x 558.8 millimeters)
  • ANSI D — 32 x 34 inches (558.8 x 863.6 millimeters)
  • ANSI E — 34 x 44 inches (863.6 x 1117.6 millimeters)
