Easels

Every easel has its own characteristics and uses, which is why each one is more suitable for a specific type of application. Here are some of the common types of easels:

• A-Frame or Lyre Easel — It’s triangular-shaped and has three legs (two in the front and one in the back). This design makes it easier to store it in a corner, which can be an advantage if you have limited space in your work area.
• H-Frame Easel — It gets its name because it’s shaped like the letter “H.” This type of easel will have a strong base, which is why it’s sturdier than an A-frame easel. It will, however, take up more room and isn't as easy to fold up.
• Giant Easel — Also called an “oversize easel,” it gets its name because it’s made for artists who work on large-scale pieces over 8 feet square. It’s extremely strong and sturdy, which is needed to support the extra weight of large canvases.
• Convertible or Hybrid Easel — This is one of the most interesting types of easels, because it can go from being a normal easel to one that can work on a tabletop. This can be a handy feature for artists who work in different types of media.
• Single Mast Easel — This kind of easel isn’t as sturdy as an H-frame or even an A-Frame easel, but it can do the job if you’re a beginning artist or an art student. It can also be a a decent option if you need an easel that can be stored more easily.
• Table Top Easel — This is a good choice for artists who work on smaller-scale projects. It’s small enough to be put on a table, which makes it very portable. And because it doesn’t take up a lot of room, it can be easily stored.
• Bench Easel — This is a combination of an easel and bench, which can be handy for plein air painters or artists who give demonstrations. It can collapse into a more portable position, so you can take it with you without having to carry an extra chair.
