THE BENEFITS OF USING GEOMAX LASER LEVELS

Geomax manufactures precise survey instruments — from rotating lasers to high-end robotic total stations. The Zone rotating lasers come in six different models. The Zone 20H is a single-plane flat laser, while the Zone 80DG is a field laser with the highest range. And of course, there are several models in between. The Zone 20HV can be laid on its side, so it can measure both a horizontal and vertical plane. It has a battery run time of approximately 60 hours, and it works well outside. These laser levels can typically be operated by a single person, which makes them more convenient and less time-consuming.

FEATURES OF GEOMAX FIELD BOOKS

Geomax makes two popular types of field books. Both are hard-bound, and both are made from water-resistant paper that’s also acid-free. The Geomax Level Field Book is 4 1/2 inches x 6 1/2 inches, with each page having a grid of blue horizontal lines and 11/16-inch vertical lines. Each book has 182 pages with an index of curve and direction tables in the back. The Geomax Engineer’s Level Field Book is 4 1/2 inches x 7 1/4 inches. The left side of the book has the same grid pattern as the other model, but the right side has a repeating grid of 5x5 squares in 1/2-inch blocks. It also has 182 pages with an index of mathematical tables in the back.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of equipment is used in surveying?

Surveyors use a variety of precision instruments to get accurate measurements that can be used for everything from mapping and modeling to creating floor plans. Some of them include but may not be limited to:
  • Theodolites — While they’re rarely used today, these tools are the predecessors of modern survey instruments. They can measure angles along horizontal and vertical planes, which allows them to get very accurate distance and location measurements of specific points.
  • Total Stations— These tools are upgraded and more comprehensive versions of theodolites by combining them with Electronic Distance Measurement (EDM) technology. They also come with microprocessors that can be used to store data.
  • Transit Levels— One of the simplest surveying instruments being used to today, these tools can be used in a number of applications. Not only can they measure horizontal lines and points, but they can also take relative measurement levels.

How does Geomax survey equipment work?

The instruments used in surveying are designed to take accurate measurements that can be used for mapping, modeling, and even floor plan design. Many of them have other uses besides surveying, so you might see them being used as part of a survey but will still be used for getting measurements. While some types of Geomax survey instruments are more advanced than others, it’s not necessary to use them on every single job.

What kind of information does a surveyor need to gather?

Surveyors have to gather a variety of information, which can include but may not be limited to:
  • The precise boundaries of a property.
  • The specific location of structures, additions, and other improvements.
  • Any slope or geographical features that could impact land use.
  • The location of easements and utilities.
