Set up the tripod you want your Leica total station to sit by extending the legs and centering it so it’s level with the ground point. Plant each leg into the ground with your foot by using the pegs at the end of each one, and carefully attach the Leica total station to the tripod with the screw that’s located at the top of the tripod mount. Make sure you have a battery that has been freshly charged and a memory card with enough space to store the needed information. But before you can start taking measurements, you need to make sure the unit is level with the ground and its height has been properly adjusted.

To calibrate your Leica Disto, you first want to establish a consistent baseline. It should be something that’s easy to get to (such as a window frame or the length of a room that’s between one and ten meters away from you), and determine its length with a tape measure. Take at least ten measurements with the Leica Disto, and record each one. Average the values to find out if there are any deviations from your baseline, and make the appropriate adjustments.

The first thing you want to do is set up the tripod over the point at which you will be working, and you want to make sure it’s centered over that specific ground point. After the legs have been extended, plant them into the ground with your foot. And after you have mounted the instrument to the telescope, you want to make sure it’s level with the ground. This will ensure accuracy throughout the measuring process.
