Tribrachs

A tribrach can come in handy when you need to use an optical or laser plummet. Plumb bobs can take up valuable time, and they can hard to use in the wind. Using a tribrach with a laser plummet can keep it level, but you can also use it with other survey instruments for the same purpose. Feel free to look at what we have in stock, so you can find a laser tribrach that’s right for you!

TRIBRACH ADAPTER WITH PRECISE ADJUSTER

Seco’s 2071-00 tribrach adapter allows you to set your prism target to the same height as your instrument, even when you change position. Mount your prism to the adapter, and use a ruler to measure from the bottom to your tilting axis. Adjust it up or down until it’s at the desired height. If you’re looking for a laser tribrach you can use on your next project, be sure to look at what we have at Engineer Supply.

HOW TO USE A SECO TRIBRACH ADJUSTING CYLINDERS

The first thing you’ll need is an instrument stand or tripod. You’ll also need a laser tribrach to help you adjust the instrument that you plan to use. Position the tripod, and place the cylinder on your tribrach. Put your target on the ceiling above, but it doesn’t need to be exact. Focus your optical plummet on the target, and use the bottom leveling screws to tilt the instrument until it’s pointed exactly on your target. Rotate the device 180 degrees to check your calibration, and move it back to the other side. Look through the instrument again, and adjust it as necessary. Repeat the process until the instrument is centered on your target from Point A to Point B, but make sure you check every quadrant.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a laser plummet?

A laser plummet is a precision instrument that makes it easier to find points above and below a specific reference point. It’s widely used in the construction industry in a variety of applications. Some of them can include but may not be limited to:
  • Mining applications.
  • Elevator shaft alignment.
  • Tower observation and monitoring.
Feel free to look at what we have at Engineer Supply, so you can find a tribrach or laser plummet that’s right for you!

How do I use a laser plummet?

You can make measurements with a laser plummet by taking the following steps:
  • Rough-set the tripod over the point by moving the legs in or out on the ground.
  • Securely attach the laser plummet to the tripod.
  • Turn on the laser plummet by pressing the appropriate button.
  • Look at the point you want to set the instrument over, and pay attention to where the laser dot is in relation to the point.
  • Determine the direction the laser dot needs to move to get over the point.
  • Rotate the instruments leveling screws to center the laser dot exactly on the point.
  • Adjust the tripod legs up or down to center the bull’s eye bubble on the instrument, but make sure you do one leg at a time.
  • Make sure the laser plummet dot is still on or close to the point.
  • Use the leveling screws to center the bubble exactly on the instrument.
  • Slightly loosen the instrument’s attachment clamp on the tripod.
  • While looking at the laser plummet dot, slide the instrument until it’s exactly on the point. But make sure you don’t rotate the instrument.
  • Tighten the attachment clamp, and double-check the level.
Make sure you re-level and repeat as necessary until the instrument is exactly level and over the point.

Can I use a tribrach with an optical plummet?

A tribrach can be used with an optical plummet or any other survey instrument, which can include but may not be limited to:
  • Theodolite
  • Total station
  • GNSS antenna
  • Target
It allows you to attach these instruments to a tripod, so you can achieve more stability while you’re using it.

Can I use a tribrach with a total station?

You can use a laser tribrach with any type of laser measuring tool, but you can also use it with a total station or any other surveying instrument. This device will allow you to attach your instrument to a tripod, so it can be more stable while you’re using it.

How accurate is a laser plummet?

With a laser plummet, you can find points both above and below a specific reference point, and you can do it more accurately than with a plumb bob. This laser measuring tool is used in a number of applications in the construction industry — from mining and elevator shaft alignment to tower observation and monitoring.
If you want to find a tribrach for your laser plummet, be sure to look at what we have at Engineer Supply.
