Cabling Tools

Some of the tools that are needed for network cabling can include but may not be limited to:

• Punchdown Tool — It can be used to connect the wires that are inside a patch panel, punch down block, keystone module, or surface mount box.
• Wire Stripper — It's designed to remove the protective covering from an Ethernet Cable, which exposes the inner wires.
• Screwdriver Set — If there’s any tool that’s essential for network cabling, this would be one of them. And you should have a set of different kinds that you can use for various purposes.
• Wire Cutter — It can be used to cut through cable and its wires. Higher-end models will often have an insulated handle, so you don’t get shocked from any wires with which you are currently working.
• Cable Crimping Tool — It's used to connect two pieces of metal by deforming one (or sometimes both) in a way that it causes them to hold each other together.
• Cable Tester — It can be used to test the strength and connectivity of a particular kind of cable. There are many different types, with each one being able to test several different kinds of cable.

Even if you don’t use all these tools, it can be useful to have them available in case you need to do some troubleshooting or need to upgrade an existing network.

Cabling tools are used to pull or route cables and wires through walls, over drop-ceilings, and in almost any area that may be hard to reach. Most networking professionals have to use these tools to run long stretches of Ethernet cable, which are needed for a network installation.

Cable installers will need a set of zip ties, so they can effectively manage cables and wires. They will also need a cable hider to protect them from traffic. The same thing can also be accomplished with cable raceways, which use a hinged conduit system that’s made of PVC. And every cable installer needs to have a set of cabling tools that can be used for anything from testing to termination.
