HOW DOES LAND SURVEYING WORK?

Land surveyors have to take exact measurements with special equipment to determine precise boundary lines. Almost every property development project starts with a survey, but land surveyors will have to follow different processes (depending on what needs to be done). In construction and engineering, changes in property lines that identify the location of buildings and roads have to be studied. Geodetic surveying uses satellites and aerial imaging to measure large areas of land, while boundary or land surveying is meant to determine the location of property lines. Surveyors need to have the right tools and equipment, because it will ensure accurate results.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A BLUEPRINT

A blueprint is a reproduction of a technical drawing, which it does through a contact print process on light-sensitive paper. The name applies to two different methods: blueprinting and whiteprinting done through a diazotype method. The original method was invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842, and it produced white lines on a blue background. The light-sensitive paper turns blue because of a chemical reaction, and it left the corresponding drawing as white lines. The diazotype method was invented in the early 1940’s, and it left blue lines on a white background. That’s why this method was often referred to as “whiteprinting.” The copiers used in this process had fewer complicated parts, and the maintenance was inexpensive (which minimized downtime).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum width of a scaffolding ladder?

In most situations, rolling scaffold ladders need to be at least 18 inches wide. But there’s a 12-inch minimum width requirement for ladder jack scaffolds, top plate bracket scaffolds, and pump jack scaffolds. The standard doesn’t yet require roof bracket scaffolds to meet this minimum.

Can ladders be used for scaffolding?

The main issue with regard to the safety of portable scaffolding is whether it’s safe to work on. That’s why they need to be installed by trained professionals under the supervision of a competent person and properly inspected before it’s used. It’s also important for every construction worker to wear proper protective equipment and has been trained on safe practices while working on a scaffolding ladder.

What rules should I follow while using portable scaffolding?

Scaffold safety is important for any construction site, because falls are a leading hazard. You always want to make sure that the scaffolding ladder has gone through a thorough safety inspection before it’s used, but here are some safety tips you should keep in mind while you’re working:
  • Post a sign indicating that only authorized staff are allowed to use the scaffold.
  • Make sure the scaffold is used on a hard, level surface and isn’t located closer than one meter from any slab edge, penetration, or other stepdown.
  • Check the scaffold for physical defects before each use, including the access ladder.
  • Make sure the scaffold is level.
  • Make sure all sections are pinned or appropriately secured.
  • Keep scaffold loads to a minimum (including tools and other equipment) and remove them when the scaffold isn’t being used.
  • Heavy tools, equipment, and supplies should be hoisted up (instead of carried by hand).
  • Leave all castors locked or chocked to prevent any possible movement.
  • If it’s practical, place portable barriers and lights around the scaffold while it’s being used.
  • Make sure that quadrails and toeboards are in place on every open side.
  • Never move the scaffold while someone is on it.
  • Secure any materials before you move a rolling scaffold.
  • Remove any additional loads (including tools) after you have finished using the scaffold.
Be sure to look at what we have at Engineer Supply, so you can find a scaffolding ladder that will meet your specific needs.

How high can I build portable scaffolding?

A scaffolding ladder can be built up to maximum height of twelve meters and will often come with lockable wheels or casters that make it more maneuverable. Be sure to look at what we have at Engineer Supply, so you can find a rolling scaffold that’s right for you!
