PIPE APPLICATIONS FOR A SCHONSTEDT UTILITY LOCATOR
If you need to use the inductive method, set the transmitter down in the line of the pipe and set the ground point. Move out at least 40 feet, find a clear beat, and mark it. For the conductive method, apply the signal through a metal pipe by attaching the clip to a valve, hydrant, or meter. You can also attach it directly to the pipe itself, but some pipes are connected to non-conductive gaskets or joints. This can severely limit the length of your trace. Non-metallic or non-conductive pipes may have tracer wires attached to them. They will run along the length of the pipe, which will allow you to trace it by attaching a clip to the wire.
SCHONSTEDT UNDERGROUND MAGNETIC LOCATORS
The GA-52Cx can be used to detect ferrous objects with an audible alert, which will get louder as it moves closer to the object. It has five sensitivity settings, weather-protected controls, and a lightweight hard case. The GA-72CA has four sensitivity settings that can detect objects at depths of up to 10 feet. The LCD displays the signal strength, and there’s an analog output that can be used for logging data entries. The GA-92XT comes standard with a holster, and it can be operated either extended or retracted. It can also come with one of two optional face plates, which will give you one-handed control of both volume and sensitivity. It even has an LCD that displays signal strength and polarity.
