Providing superior laser detection in outdoor environments

Laser Detectors

If you plan to use a laser level outdoors, you will need to use a laser detector. Also called a “laser receiver,” this type of laser sensor can help you find a laser beam in environments where it isn’t visible to the naked eye. And at Engineer Supply, we have laser detectors from some of the best brands in the industry. Feel free to look at what we have in stock, so you can find a laser level detector that’s right for you!

HOW PROPERLY TO USE A LASER LEVEL

Start by setting up the laser level on a tripod or flat surface. If it’s a manual level, make sure the bubble vial shows level. Otherwise, it will take a moment to level itself when you turn the device on. The unit will emit a laser that will show level on a wall or across an outdoor workspace. And depending on the model, it could be dot, multiple-line, or rotary (which will show level at 360 degrees horizontally or vertically). You can use a laser detector to intercept the laser if there’s no wall to “catch” it. Connect it to a measuring rod and adjust it up or down until you hear a beep. Secure the laser level detector to the rod and make the appropriate measurements.

HOW TO CALIBRATE A LASER LEVEL

Start by setting up the laser level on a tripod about 100 feet from a wall, and rotate it with the front pointing to the wall. Turn on the detector and the laser level. When the detector gives you the signal that shows levelness, make a mark on the wall. Rotate the laser 180 degrees, and make a level mark with the detector again. Measure the distance between both marks. And if it’s within the device’s specified accuracy, it’s correct. Rotate the laser 90 degrees, and make a mark using the detector. Measure the distance between this mark and the previous one. If it’s within the device’s specified accuracy, it’s also correct. But if it’s out of range, it will need to be professionally calibrated.

THE PERFECT TOOL FOR IMPROVED PRECISION IN OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENTS

Whether you’re measuring the grade of a specific area of land or need to level the foundation for a new building, a laser detector will allow you to use any type of laser leveling tool outdoors. You may not always be in an environment where the beam is visible, which is why having this type of laser sensor is important for any construction or surveying professional. If you’re looking for a place where you can find a quality laser level detector you can use for your next project, feel free to look at what we have at Engineer Supply.

MAKING IT EASIER TO ACCURATELY MEASURE ELEVATION AND GRADE

If you need to measure the elevation and grade of a specific area of land, a laser detector can allow you to use your laser measuring tools in situations where you can’t see the beam. You can connect this type of laser sensor to a measuring rod, so you can get a precise elevation measurement. This will allow you to create a more accurate elevation map. And at Engineer Supply, we have tools from some of the most recognized brands on the marker. Feel free to look at what we have in stock, so you can find a laser level detector that will meet your specific needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a laser level detector?

A laser detector can find the position of a laser beam in relation to the measurements of a grade rod, which can ensure a more accurate reading by providing an audible sound when the device has found the laser. Some models also have a leveling vial that can be used for manual leveling in vertical mode. Some will also have other capabilities, which can include but may not be limited to:
  • Dual-axis slope mode for improved functionality.
  • A scan mode of 15, 45, or 90 degrees.
  • An IP67 rating with a 2-meter drop for better durability.
If you’re looking for this type of laser sensor to use on your next project, be sure to look at what we have in stock.

How do I use a laser level detector?

You can use a laser detector by taking the following steps:
  • Turn on the device.
  • Put the detector on a camp holder.
  • Put the camp holder with the attached laser level on a measuring rod.
  • Aim the laser sensor where the signal of the laser level is rotating.
  • Continue to adjust the bolt to get the best signal out of the laser level.
  • Change directions as the signal coming from the laser level changes position.
Once you notice that the detector has found the signal (which is typically indicated by a beep or some other audible sound), you’ll know that you got what you wanted.

Can I buy a laser level with a detector?

Using a detector to find the signal coming from a laser level can be helpful in situations where you can’t the beam, which is often the case with outdoor applications. Feel free to look at the broad selection we have at Engineer Supply, so you find a laser level detector that’s right for you!

What kind of measuring tools use a laser?

A laser distance meter can be used to measure distance by emitting a laser pulse in the direction of a specific object. It evaluates the time it takes for the beam to get to the object and back, which is used to measure its distance. This device was preceded by ultrasound meters, which were first used in the 1990’s. And it was based on the principles of reflected sound waves. They did not, however, allow you to target a specific point. So, they weren’t very precise.

Where can I buy quality laser leveling tools?

If you’re looking for a place where you can choose from a broad selection of laser leveling and measuring tools, you can find what you need at Engineer Supply. We work with some of the best brands in the industry, and we can offer them to you at a reasonable price. Feel free to look at what we have in stock, so you can find a product that’s right for you!
