If you're reading this page, then you probably got
here by viewing a product page first. If the product
page says "Ships by Truck", then this page will
apply.
Whenever possible, EngineerSupply ships via a ground carrier (such as UPS or FedEx). But, large or heavy items must be shipped by truck freight (semi-trailer or flat-bed). The item can only be shipped by ground services. This means that
expedited services are not available for this particular product.
Lift-Gate Truck
A LIFT-GATE TRUCK IS REQUIRED IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LOADING DOCK. Trucks with lift-gates can be arranged
to move your products from the bed of the truck to
the ground, at which point you will be responsible
for moving the product inside yourself. You will see
this optional service as a choice on the product
page for any product that ships by truck. If your
location requires a lift-gate truck and you do not
request the service, you can be charged a re-delivery
fee since the trucking company will be required to
return to their dispatch location, and switch
trucks.
Inside Delivery
Another optional service is "inside delivery". You
will see this optional service as a choice on the
product page for any products that ship by truck.
Inside delivery means the shipping company delivery
drivers will unload the products and move them just
inside the most logical or closest entrance to your
building. If products need to be carried further,
for example up a flight of stairs, we recommend you
ask the delivery drivers if they can do so for an
extra fee (which you pay to them directly), or you
contact a moving company local to your area (try the
Yellow Pages) and pay
them to move the product perhaps the day after the
delivery occurs.
Special Requests
Please note that any special requests by
customer at the time of delivery will not be paid
for by EngineerSupply.
Shipping Carriers
The carriers we use will usually call you a day or two
prior to the actual delivery date and schedule the
delivery, making sure someone is there to sign for
the delivery. If you schedule a delivery date and
time, and then fail to be there at the time of the
delivery, you can possibly get charged for a
redelivery fee. Also, if they arrive without a
lift-gate truck and your location requires it, you
can be charged a redelivery fee since the trucking
company will be required to return to their dispatch
location, and switch trucks.
Inspection and If There is Damage
The most important thing to remember about truck
freight is that you MUST inspect the package at the
time of delivery before the delivery truck leaves.
We recommend that you take the time to open the box
and inspect for concealed damage while the truck
driver waits. If the box has any damage, or if there
is any reason for you to be at all concerned about
damage, please write "PRODUCT DAMAGED" clearly on
the sheet that they ask you to sign, and refuse
shipment. This simply insures that if there is any
damage, it will be easy to take care of the problem.
It's possible that if you fail to mark DAMAGED on
the paper that the shipping company asks you to sign
at delivery time, they will not want to agree that
the damage was caused during shipment.
Shipment Times
For any product that ships by truck, please
allow more time for
delivery to occur (approximate 7 additional business
days). This is due to freight companies that have
LTL (less-than-truckload) shipments can take a
little more time getting loads loaded and unloaded
than a carrier like UPS. UPS typically can move
faster since the boxes they deliver are smaller in
size. Truck shipments are big and can add a little
more time to the process. If you have any questions regarding
shipping, please contact us prior to ordering.
Customer Communication with Shipping Company
In regards to shipment date and times that are
pre-arranged with the shipping company contacting
customer to arrange delivery date and times, if
customer fails to assist in scheduling a delivery
from a shipping company, and the shipping company
cannot deliver due to lack of cooperation from
customer, sometimes a redelivery fee, and/or storage
fee can be charged by the shipping company to us,
which we will pass along to you the customer. This
means that you should make yourself available to be
contacted, and be willing to return calls back to
shipping companies and cooperate in setting up a
common date and time for the delivery to occur.
